It was clear that peace had been broken… maybe even shattered!

Psalm 122:1-9

Reference: v.9 For the sake of my friends and of all the people,
I will say, “Peace be within you.” (TNIV Bible)

Explore: We are slowing integrating two foster children into our family. C1 has come to stay full time. He is five, craves affection, and responds well to firm boundaries.

His younger brother, C2, is four. He is cheeky, active and very imaginative. C2 is currently in a good placement, but it will be good to have the brothers living together again.

The other weekend we had the boys staying at our house together. It was great for them to spend so much time in each other’s company but, of course, it brought out the sibling rivalry.

C2 wanted whatever C1 had. C1 always wanted C2’s attention, even when he was happily watching TV. C2 cried whenever C1 won a competition.

It was clear that peace had been broken… maybe even shattered! I got so used to the constant bantering back and forth between the two children that I got nervous when there was silence!

Application: Peace is the absence of war, a mutual agreement and a freedom from any strife. We can experience peace in our personal relationships, at our work places and in our country.

A place devoid of peace is a dark and sorrowful place.

We can also experience peace within ourselves. Even when the world around us is in chaos, we can still focus on an inner peace.

This comes when our goals and purpose line up with our actions and there is a lack of conflict within the decisions we make. A person who has peace within them does not fear the future but moves confidently forward with great intention.

We can’t always control our relationships, our workplace or our country, but we can actively pursue inner peace.

God is the ultimate source of peace. If we want to know how to find peace we look to His guidance and how He lived here on earth.

Prayer: Lord, a life without peace brings much turmoil. May we gain a better understanding of what peace is and strive to live for it. Amen.

Would you say that you are living with inner peace at the moment?
