The responses a month later were incredible
Reference: May God be gracious to us and bless us and make his face shine on us— so that your ways may be known on earth, your salvation among all nations. (Psalm 67:1-2 NIV)
Explore: I once heard about a church who gave $100 to every single member of their congregation. While this seemed like a reverse tithe, it was actually a mission activity.
Each member was encouraged to use the money to bless someone else, someone out of the church.
Thoughts of buying themselves the latest fashion very quickly changed to thinking of buying a homeless person lunch.
They had a month to do this and then come back to report what their money had done.
The responses a month later were incredible. They had blessed neighbours with garden assistance, they had contributed to charities, they had clothed someone living on the streets.
But the greatest response of all was that they had thought of other people.
Application: So often when we receive something we automatically think about how it will affect us. But wouldn’t it be great if our first response was thinking of how it could impact others.
God gives us so much. Psalm 67 asks God for graciousness, blessing and attention. But it is not for our benefit, it is so others will know God too.
Have a look around you. God has blessed you with all you have. How can you use it to show other people God’s greatness.
Prayer: Lord, thank You for all that You’ve given to me. Forgive me when I use it for selfish ambition. May I always look to see how I can use Your blessings to declare Your name to others. Amen.
How can you use what you have to tell others about God?
