What Will You Wear?
Main article content
We noticed that certain people had certain styles.
Reference: He wore cursing as his garment; it entered into his body like water, into his bones like oil. (Psalm 109:18 NIV)
Explore: I was recently chatting to some friends of mine and we were talking about clothes that certain people wear. We weren’t looking at brands or analysing how good people looked, but just noticing that certain people had particular styles.
I explained that I don’t like to wear black. I realise that it’s a slimming colour, so I should probably wear it every day (!) but I find it quite drab and it affects my mood.
My friends had never noticed this, but one of them commented that whenever she thought of me, she thought of bright colours. I liked this. I was happy to be remembered as colourful… even if I wasn’t stylish!
Application: Every person wears particular clothes, and yet, we all clothe ourselves with certain attitudes and behaviours too.
Some people clothe themselves with judgment and criticism. Some clothe themselves with joy and laughter.
Some choose wisdom and intellect. Some choose integrity and love.
There are many attitudes we can clothe ourselves in and, just like our wardrobe, we make choices every single day.
There are some days I wake up on the wrong side of bed and I make poor choices in the attitude I wear for the day. Other days I make better choices and I see the difference it makes to me and to the people I interact with.
Psalm 109 has reminded me that we can make choices every single day as to how we clothe ourselves. Today, as I stand at my wardrobe, I’m going to consider the clothes I will wear as well as the attitude I will put on.
Prayer: Lord, each day may I clothe myself in Your values so I can be a mouth piece for You. Amen.
