The greatest thing we could ever have is given to us for free

Psalm 11:1-7

Reference: In the Lord I take refuge. How then can you say to me: “Flee like a bird to your mountain.” (Psalm 11:1 NIV)

Explore: Advertising can have a strong influence in our lives. To get you to purchase their products, companies will tell you that you’re not good enough.

Your house is dirty, you need our cleaning products; You are too unfit, you need our exercise machine; Your life is lacking, you need our holiday destination. Whatever your problem is, advertising has a solution.

In fact, you may not have even thought you had a problem until you saw some advertising! It’s surprising how disillusioned we can be made to feel by someone who does not even know us.

Application: While advertisements tell us we are lacking, the Bible has a different story. It tells us that the greatest thing we could ever have is given to us for free. It lasts forever, it can never be taken from us, and we already have access to it.

This amazing gift is God. He has given Himself to us completely and, although we don’t deserve such an amazing gift, we can rely on Him at all times.

You will never find anything that this world offers as powerful as God. He will never leave us and His grace never fades. Advertising may tell us differently and that’s why we must continue to remind ourselves of God’s amazing gift to us by reading the Bible.

Advertisements will tell us to take refuge in their product, but the only sure thing in our world is God.

Prayer: Lord, we often try to fill our lives with products and possessions. They will never fulfil our needs. May we always turn to You for all our desires and see ourselves as whole when we are wrapped the love You have freely given. Amen.
